Cooking with my Paris spices

On my recent Paris trip, one of the things I did was a food tour (through Paris by mouth) in the Marais, and one of the places we stopped on the tour was a spice shop with a sniffing bar. I had bought a bottle of ras el hanout from the store based on the smell. I had no idea what I would do with this spice, figured I'd look it up online when I got home.

Well, turns out ras el hanout is a Moroccan spice mix that differs from shop to shop as each proprietor comes up with his own secret combination. The most common recipes I found to use it in is tagine and I tried this one which uses a slow cooker rather than the traditional clay pot.

This was a huge hit with my guests! I used chicken thighs for the meat and vegetable broth (because I had it in my pantry) but otherwise followed the recipe. I served it with rice. I will definitely be making this again!
