A-frame

I had dinner at this WLA restaurant located in an old IHOP. The chef is Roy Choi who is credited with reinventing the food truck industry with the Kogi taco truck. The decor is 'picnic' with communal tables and benches, mismatched tin plates and knives and forks kept at the center of the table. The food is meant to be shared with small, medium and large portioned dishes. The items we tried were all very inventive and delicious. The sesame leaf wrapped tempura shrimp come on skewers with a dipping sauce and cucumber. Heirloom tomato salad was perfect at this time of year when tomatoes are at their peak of ripeness (I really only ate the tomatoes and not the greens that came with it). The fried chicken was tasty and juicy with a crispy skin (again, I skipped the sauces and the accompaniments). The mussels came in a wonderfully flavourful broth. The pan de sal bread could be a meal in itself (studded with all kinds of seeds and nuts). We had the ice cream sandwich in the cinnamon and oatmeal version and both the ice cream and cookie were top-notch. They have some fun creative cocktails, a nice outdoor area. Fun place to go for a casual meal with friends.
