Los Angeles Ballet
This is a brand new ballet company trying to build an audience in LA. They started up a couple of Decembers ago with a Nutcracker with an LA flavour. I went to a few performances last year and the dancers are very talented. The repertoire is primarily Balanchine with some Bournonville. This year they also commissioned a few brand new ballets. Last week I went to their latest performance with Gigi and Maria. The company did Four Temperaments, Tarantella and Who Cares (all Balanchine), as well as a brand new piece by Melissa Barak, who is a member of the company and a former NYCB dancer. We thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The great thing that LA Ballet does is they spread their performances around town, Westwood, Glendale, Redondo Beach. It takes 15 minutes to get to the RB theatre from my home, plus free parking. All that on top of a terrific night of dancing, what's not to love. I hope the company continues to build an audience.
